Hi, my name is Emma, and here’s a little bit about how I got here. I started taking yoga classes when I was in my early 20’s, and quickly fell in love with the patients the practice requires. I started a self practice while backpacking in New Zealand in 2007-2008 by studying a yoga sequencing book. Yes, this was before the days of i-phones and youtube! In 2009 we moved to Thailand to teach English, where I began leading yoga classes for friends on our tropical flower clad front porch. This was around the time I started hula hooping as well, and I would spend hours a day practicing in the grass with my new best friend!
In 2012 I went to Rishikesh India and did my 200hr yoga teacher training. It was a month long intensive course that helped me better understand my body, the inner workings of yoga as a discipline , and the origins and philosophy of yoga.
In 2013, we moved to Hong Kong. I didn’t waste any time contacting studios and picking up classes. I also started a hula hooping meet up group, and was pleasantly surprised when people started reaching out to me via the platform for classes and performances!
In 2015 I ‘quit my day job’ of teaching English, and followed my passion for movement. It was one of the most exciting things I’ve ever done, and propelled me onto the path I am now following. I loved the diversity and the constant challenge. In one week I could be teaching hula hoop to a class of 15 kids at a school, traveling across the city to teach yoga to a private client focusing on back care, and then doing a hula hoop performance at a corporate event for hundreds of people! I am someone who craves learning and adventure, and this was the life for me!
In 2015, I attended Anna Forrests advanced yoga training course. She is truly a healer, and I aspire to impact peoples lives the way she has.
In 2016 I did my prenatal and postnatal yoga training. I knew I wanted to have children someday, so was preparing to adapt my career as my life changed.
In 2016 I also did my 500hr yoga teacher training with Bryce yoga in Thailand. The course was organized by the founder of Absolute Yoga, and was an amazing opportunity to connect with teachers and students from around the world. There were modules on myofacial release, inversions, and partner yoga, but my favorite was the anatomy module led by Michael Watson of Anatomy Trains. I’ve gone on to do multiple workshops led by them, and aspire to become certified in structural integration. It made me realize that the thing I love most about teaching yoga is the ability to help someone with their specific needs.
In 2017 I did a certification in children’s yoga with Divine Light Yoga. I was already teaching hula hoop to kids, so this was a natural addition. On this training I discovered that I was pregnant with my first baby!
In 2017 I had my first child, and got to experience how amazing the body really is! My focus shifted and my spree of trainings went on hold. I continued teaching pre and post natal, teaching hula hoop classes and birthday parties, and doing hula hoop performances. When I had my second child in 2021 I took a bit of a longer break!
In 2022 we moved from Hong Kong to Massachusetts to be closer to family. I’ve also used this time to refocus on what is most important to me in my career. Through the pregnancy and birth of my two babies, I discovered my passion for helping women through this transition. It is truly amazing what our bodies are capable of! But this transition can leave us feeling weak, out of touch with our bodies, and not sure how to proceed with regards to exercise and ‘getting our bodies back.’ I love helping women gain confidence in their bodies, tackle goals, and learn how to navigate this transition in a way that feels empowering instead of scary. Check out my page for private pre and post natal yoga classes for more info on how to work with me, and have a look at my blog for some useful info.
With love, Emma
